Preparing Your Presentation

Presenters provide about five 25-minute presentations to groups of about 30-35 students. Lessons should be water-related and encourage students to become active in water stewardship.
To give a great presentation, please plan to:
  • Be interactive. Instead of giving a 25-minute lecture or slideshow, physically involve students by having them help with the lesson, do a guided activity or answer questions.
  • Keep students engaged. Aim to spend less than 10 minutes introducing the topic, about 15 minutes engaging students in a hands-on activity and a couple of minutes to emphasize one takeaway.
  • Stay on time! This helps the entire festival run smoothly. Keep an eye on your cell phone or watch, or ask group volunteer guides to give signals.
  • Base the activity and vocabulary on sixth graders, who are typically 11 or 12 years old.

You don’t need to be a professional educator to be a great presenter and we are happy to provide any suggestions. If you would like someone to help review or develop your presentation, contact Ellen Olson, festival coordinator, at denvermetrowaterfest@gmail.com or 720-934-7632.

Thank you for your interest in making
the 2020 Denver Metro Water Festival a success!
